Kenny Finkle

Cross-border artist and educator

Kenny Findle is a theatre maker, writer, composer, semi-visual artist, performer and teacher. His plays have been produced all around the country including Indoor/Outdoor, which premiered Off-Broadway and has had over 50 productions. His non - traditional work including his graphic novel musical U R ★ (You Are Star) for intimate audiences, which has been developed and produced at the American Repertory Theatre, the Orchard Project and Ars Nova. The intimate pop musical with hand drawn graphics entertains a group of five audiences.

The work has made Finkle a recent winner of an NEA award to develop and produce 1993 Melancholy with the Keen Company. Also he has been commissioned to work on a new piece for the Dallas Theatre Center. His plays are published by Broadway Play Publishing, Samuel French and Smith and Krauss. Finkle has been Adjunct Professor of Playwriting at
Marymount Manhattan College since 2012.

His plays have been produced throughout the US and Canada, Europe, Asia and Australia. He has developed new work with the Orlando Shakespeare Theater, New Repertory Theater, the New American Playwrights Project, and Actors’ Repertory Theatre of Vermont. His work has been selected once for the Gary Garrison Festival and three times for the Samuel French Festival. He is a four-time winner of the Firehouse New Works Contest, a winner of the Nantucket Short Play Contest, the Rover Dramawerks Competition, the Longwood 0-60 Contest, New York’s 8-Minute Madness Festival, the Nor’Eastern Playwriting Contest, Seoul Players Contest and the KNOCK International Short Play Competition. His work has been included in the Best 10-Minute Plays, Best American Short Plays and New England New Plays anthologies. When not writing, John teaches theater, writing and Shakespeare. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
